Murramarang with kids works best when you choose short wins: rainforest loop, lake discovery, supervised beach time, early exit. The park still has rips, sun and wildlife rules — easy distance is not zero hazard.
Entry fees commonly apply ([VERIFY] ~$8 per vehicle per day). No pets except certified assistance animals. Never feed kangaroos if you detour to Pebbly.
Check alerts each morning. If ocean swell is ugly, lean into lake and forest products. Yuin Country — model respectful behaviour for children.
Track status, weather and closures change — verify on NSW National Parks before you leave, then use the timeline below as a planning skeleton only.
Timeline
Night before
Set kid-friendly expectations
Primary = Depot Beach rainforest loop + beach. Optional = Durras Lake Discovery if energy remains. Leave off the list: full MSCW, Durras Mountain, long one-way coastal days. Pack snacks, water, spare clothes, sun kit, simple first aid.
0:00–0:40
Arrive Depot early
Pay entry ([VERIFY]). Toilets, sunscreen reapplied, valuables cleared from car. Agree a meeting point if anyone separates (they should not).
0:40–1:30
Rainforest loop
Walk the short signed rainforest loop when open. Shoes on. Supervised stepping-stones/roots. Talk about why littoral rainforest matters — keep it playful, keep it on track.
1:30–3:00
Beach block
Sand play and paddle only if conditions suit your weakest swimmer. Unpatrolled beach — adult eyes on water at all times. Shade breaks. No rock-shelf chasing on rising tides.
3:00–4:30
Optional lake discovery OR Pebbly quick look
Optional A: Durras Lake Discovery trail for birds and calmer water edges (still supervise). Optional B: short Pebbly visit for distant kangaroo watching only if kids still happy — leave before meltdown hour. Otherwise village ice-cream and exit.
4:30+
Recovery
North/South Durras or Batemans Bay food. Early night if camping. Note what to repeat tomorrow if you have a second day.

What success looks like
- Kids still willing to talk about the forest at dinner
- No sunburn crisis, no lost child panic, no wildlife feeding
