Pebbly Beach car park is full — Plan B
What to do when Pebbly Beach parking is already gone: Depot, Dark Beach, Pretty Beach, or leave — not blocking campground roads or inventing a second kangaroo queue.

Best for: First-timers hitting Pebbly on a fine weekend or school holiday
Unofficial guide — always verify track conditions, closures, fees and safety with NSW National Parks. Place photos are Wikimedia Commons / CC where credited — not official NPWS imagery and not live conditions.
Some stay, tour and gear links may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Park entry fees and official NPWS camping bookings are never affiliated.

If the Pebbly Beach day-use park is already full, the visit is not “failed.” The failure is forcing a second queue: blocking campground roads, turning around on a narrow access, or walking off-track because the grass looked empty of cars.
This is a decision article. Official NPWS pages own closures and camping rules. We own the fork: switch precinct, shorten the day, or leave and keep the group civil.
The decision (do this first)
Name one alternative before you enter the last kilometre of Pebbly Beach Road: Depot Beach rainforest + swim, Dark Beach if open and the group still wants a cove, Pretty Beach if you came from the north, or abort to Batemans Bay / Ulladulla and keep the afternoon. Do not add “and then we’ll try Pebbly again at 2pm” unless someone stays with the car plan.
If kangaroos were the whole brief, skip the mountain. A delayed Grade 4 climb in heat is how a parking fail becomes a medical story.
What never to invent
No verge parking on vegetation. No walking through camp sites for a photo. No feeding wildlife because the grass was empty of animals at the busy node. Pets stay out of the park.
Confirm on the sign: closed tracks, fire bans, and “no parking” mean what they say. A social-media pin is not an overflow car park.
If you will try Pebbly another day
Arrive earlier than feels civilised on fine weekends and holidays. Book official NPWS camping when you want a morning inside the precinct. Read the Pebbly area page and visit hub for fees (vehicle entry is separate from camping).
Pair this with tide notes if rock platforms were also on the list — a full car park plus a bad tide is two reasons to choose Depot shade instead.
FAQ
Tap a question to expand the answer.
Can I wait in the campground road until a space appears?
No. Campground lanes are for booked campers and traffic flow. Wait only in legal day-use spaces, or leave for another precinct.
Is Depot always quieter?
Not always, but it is the usual Plan B when Pebbly is the kangaroo magnet. Confirm open tracks and parking on the day via NPWS and your own eyes.
